AMD Confirms Opteron Designations

AMD Confirms Opteron Designations

AMD came tidying up after us since we wrote that story last week about its impending Opteron numbering scheme and it looks like it's going to have a 100 series as well as a 200 and ultimately 800. The 100s implies one-ways, the 200s two-ways and 800s eight-ways. It says it's numbering the last to two digits in the 40s, like we said, so users wouldn't mistake the designations for clock speed thus there'll be a 240, 242 and 244 or, to break the code, a 1.4GHz, 1.6GHz and the rare 1.8GHz.
